Due to the affection by the novel coronavirus, the Ministry of Education issued a notice to postpone the opening of the school in spring. However, this did not affect students to gain knowledge in HFSU at all, all the students registered online class which organized by HFSU though online platform Zhihuishu, MOOC, and Dingding since February 17th, 2020.
As an international undergraduate foreign language university, the construction of less commonly used languages has always been a specialty for HFSU. After the class got suspended, three Indonesian language teachers, Chen Jialong, Bari and Niki joined the online teaching. First time to teach online was not easy for them, especially in Indonesia, where the internet is not very developed. In order to achieve the best class effect and to help students to understand better, they are not only need to prepare each lesson in advance, but also need to study how to use the software during the break.
The great thing is, after the first online class, all of them received a very positive feedback from students, which has given them great confidence. “Under the epidemic situation, use this way to provide lecture is the best way. This software is advanced, and it is very convenient” said by teacher Chen Jialong. Each time, teachers call the attendance, pay attention to online interaction, try their best to let students actively participate in the class discussion, before the class is over, they also check with students for the key points as the class summary. Students all agree that this is a very great method to study through internet.
Through the class feedback, students believed that the way of class is more relaxing, more convenient and more efficient. Online class not only enables them to gain the knowledge, but also give them an opportunity to change their views and thoughts.
Teacher Lida who teaches Spanish, and teacher Mivan who teaches Albanian language use varies of teaching methods during the class, make students learn less commonly used language easier.
Foreign teachers who live in HFSU campus are not only very excellent on their own academic field, but also they are very excellent on making our students better.
Suspended Class, Ongoing Learning. We will continue to spare effort on building online courses, and improve the class quality at the same time, to ensure every student able to study happily and enjoy the atmosphere in learning less commonly used languages in HFSU.
