On the morning of June 5, Mr. Sun Jianzhong, chairman and President of Hebei Foreign Studies University , had a video meeting with Mr. Sablido and his wife of the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba. Mr. Sablido expressed his gratitude to Hebei Foreign Studies University for donating epidemic prevention materials to Cuba. Also participating in the video conference are The President's Assistant for Foreign affairs and Vice President Dr. Yang Zhen and Vice President for Foreign Affairs Chen Wei.
As early as March this year, after President Sun learned of the novel Coronavirus outbreak in Cuba, Hebei Foreign Studies University raised funds through multiple channels to purchase 20,000 masks and contacted the international logistics company to package all masks and send them to Cuba. But because the international transport lines shut down, mask was returned. With the help of the embassy of the republic of Cuba, after nearly two months, Hebei Foreign Studies University’s epidemic prevention materials have been successfully sent to Cuba's higher education.
Sablido said that China is very proud of the exchange and cooperation with Hebei Foreign Studies University. As an important friend of the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba, President Sun has not only strengthened bilateral cooperation, but also deepened the profound friendship between the two sides. Now more than 20 universities directly under the Ministry of Higher Education have the task of directly fighting against viruses. Many teachers and students are on the front line of fighting against viruses. These masks presented by President Sun and Hebei Foreign Studies University are strong supports for us and will help us protect our health. China has achieved a phased victory against novel Coronavirus and the epidemic situation across the country has been brought under control. I am very happy to see the strong anti-virus measures taken by the Chinese government. Although the epidemic in Cuba continues, it is gradually getting under control, and I am sure we will meet soon.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Sablido said to President Sun, "I give
you warm hugs and deep kisses. I send all my heartfelt wishes to
you. I hope you can take good care of yourself and we can embrace and meet
each other as soon as possible."
When meeting with Raul Castro, President of the Council of State and President
of the Council of Ministers of Cuba in 2014, Xi jinping proposed three
"unswervingly" for developing China-Cuba relations: unswervingly
deepening the friendship with sincerity, unswervingly carrying out mutually
beneficial and win-win cooperation, and unswervingly becoming a partner of
reform and development.
The year 2020 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic
relations between China and Cuba. Cuba is the first country in the Western
Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with China. Under the leadership
of President Sun Jianzhong, a permanent academician of the Cuban Academy of
Sciences, Hebei Foreign Studies University will fully blossom the traditional
friendship between China and Cuba in the field of higher education cooperation.
